No. 15 Akron Hosts Mount Aloysius and Schreiner in NCAA Qualifier

AKRON, Ohio -Â The 15th-ranked University of Akron rifle team will begin its postseason campaign this Saturday (Feb. 21), as the Zips host Mount Aloysius and Schreiner University in an NCAA Qualifier match at the Robert A. Pinn Shooting Range at 9 a.m.
All NCAA rife teams in the nation will participate in a qualifier match this weekend. This score will be added to the average of the top three scores of the season to determine the final national rankings. Only the top eight teams will be invited to the NCAA Championships to be hosted by Ohio State, March 13-14. The NCAA Selection Show is slated for Monday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m.
Senior Natalia Siek (Flemington, N.J.) leads the Zips this season posting team-best averages of 1178.36, 586.5 and 591.86, in the combined, smallbore and air rifles, respectively. Freshman Matthew Kimball (Pineville, La.) is second on the team in both combined and air rifle, with averages of 1171 and 589.71, while senior Rachael Paddock (Perry, N.Y.) is second in smallbore scoring, posting an average of 581.93.
The NCAA Qualifier will mark the final home matches in the decorated Akron careers for redshirt-seniors Joey Hahn (Middle Grove, N.Y.) and Sally Reeke (Clifton, Va) and seniors Paddock and Siek.
Akron continues postseason competition traveling to West Point N.Y., for the Great America Rifle Conference Championships, Feb. 28 - March 1, hosted by Army.
