Amato's Multi-Goal Game Not Enough In 4-2 Loss To Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio – Sophomore Ashley Amato (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored her second multi-goal game of the year against one of the top tier defense's in the MAC, but Toledo countered by scoring three straight goals as the Rockets defeat the Zips, 4-2, on Friday afternoon at Scott Park in Toledo.
"Obviously everyone is disappointed," said head coach Noreen Herlihy. "Toledo has one of the best defenses in the MAC and to score twice was a positive, but today that wasn't enough. We will keep working at it and it's as simple as that."
Amato, along with junior Shea O'Brien (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) paced the Zips offensively with two shots each and three shots on goal combined. Junior Erica Schrader (Blacklick, Ohio) , and freshmen Ally Brown (Batavia, Ohio) and Abigail Brown (Batavia, Ohio) all registered a shot to bring the Akron total to seven on the afternoon.

Freshman Amani Jiu (Brooklyn, N.Y.) made her 15th start of 2017 and made five saves in the match.

Five shots into the game for the Rockets saw Toledo get on the board in the at the 17:24 mark courtesy of Alena Sidwell's goal.

Determined to get back into the game, the Akron offense quickly got back to work and the first shot for the Zips following the UT goal found the back of the net. Al. Brown found her teammate, Amato, open who in stride ripped a shot past the Rocket keeper for the equalizer at the 23:39 mark.

Brown tried her hand in giving Akron the lead in the 29', but was unsuccessful as her shot on goal was pulled in by the Rockets keeper.

The Akron defense gave Toledo a tough battle in the ensuing minutes making it difficult for them to get a good look on goal. Jiu made one save, the Zips defense stepped in front of two shots, and two shots went high.

Toledo would regain the lead right before the halftime break on Sophia Lewis' first goal of the year.

The Rockets extended their lead to 3-1 within two minutes of play resuming in the second half and added their final tally of the game in 68' off Lewis' second goal of the match.

Despite trailing, the Zips never backed down. Akron attempted three shots in the next nine minutes after the Rockets goal that were saved and sailed wide.

The fourth time was the charm for Akron as Amato scored her second goal of the match at the 78:45 mark.

In the final 12 minutes of the contest, Akron did everything they could to get back into the game, but the deficit was too large to overcome and the Zips fell, 4-2.

Akron is back on the field on Sunday, Oct. 15, as the Zips head down to Bowling Green, Ohio for a 1 p.m. showdown with the Falcons.
