AKRON, Ohio - The Akron women's soccer team begins its 2026 campaign with Oakland at First Energy Stadium on Sunday, August 16, at 1 p.m.
SCOUTING REPORT
Oakland started the 2026 season with a 3-0 victory at Mercyhurst. It marked the first season-opening victory for the Golden Grizzlies since 2022.
The Golden Grizzlies are poised to make another jump in the standings in 2026, improving from a last-place finish in 2024 to a sixth-place finish and Horizon League Championship semifinal appearance in 2025.
Oakland finished the 2025 regular season undefeated at home in conference play, standing tall against every opponent and establishing a hard-nosed, gritty culture. Its overtime victory over Youngstown State in the 2025 Horizon League Championship Quarterfinals capped off the season, putting the conference on notice.
ALL-MAC IN 2025
University of Akron women's soccer standouts junior Jordanne Oberhaus and freshman Addison Hall garnered All-Mid-American Conference accolades when the league unveiled its 2025 award winners in a vote of the league coaches released on Friday (Oct. 31).
Oberhaus headlined the Zips' award winners as she was selected as a Second-Team honoree, while Hall was tabbed to the All-Freshman team.
IT'S OFFICIAL
Maggie Kuhn was officially named the head coach of the Akron women's soccer team on December 11, 2025. Kuhn served as the Interim Head Coach for the Zips during the 2025 campaign and will enter her fifth season overall with the Akron program in 2026.
MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
This past season, Kuhn guided Akron to its highest Mid-American Conference finish since the 2020 campaign on the strength of nine league points, including the Zips earning three road results, its best mark since 2019. Additionally, the Zips posted their highest single-season goal (18) and point (62) totals since 2022 and 2018, respectively, while recording a program record 26 assists.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
Akron continued to excel off the pitch under Kuhn as 12 earned Academic All-MAC honors this fall to go along with six Zips being recognized on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District squad. Akron women's soccer recorded a program-record 3.814 GPA during the Spring 2025 semester and has led the department in cumulative team GPA for five consecutive semesters.Â
