Times for Several Zips' Football Games Announced

CLEVELAND — The Mid-American Conference announced several kickoff times for the 2016 football season on Thursday.
The University of Akron football team will play on national television a minimum of six times.
Akron opens the 2016 season at InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field against Virginia Military Institute (VMI) on Saturday, Sept. 3, at 6:30 p.m. ESPN3 will carry the game online.
The Zips' non-conference game at Marshall on Sept. 17 will kick off at Noon on the CBS Sports Network.
The Zips open MAC play at Kent State on Oct. 1 in the Wagon Wheel game. The game will kick off at 3:30 p.m.
Homecoming is slated for Oct. 8 against Miami (Ohio) at 3 p.m.
UA travels to Ball State on Oct. 22 for a 3 p.m. contest.
The Zips then travel to Buffalo for a Thursday night game on CBS Sports Network/ESPN3 on Oct. 27. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
Akron plays three mid-week games in November. On Wednesday, Nov. 2, UA entertains Toledo at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
On Wednesday, Nov. 9, the Zips host Bowling Green at 8 p.m. on ESPN2/ESPNU on Senior Night.
Following a bye week, UA closes out the 2016 schedule at Ohio on Tuesday, Nov. 22, in a 7 p.m. game on ESPNU/ESPN3.
All home games will be played at InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field.
The 2016 MAC Championship game is slated for Friday, Dec. 2, a 7 p.m. at Ford Field in Detroit on ESPN2.
All other kickoff times and television will be announced 12 days prior to the scheduled game.
The 2016 schedule will be challenging as seven opponents participated in postseason bowls: Wisconsin (W, 23-21 vs. USC in the Holiday Bowl), Marshall (W, 16-10 vs. Connecticut in the St. Petersburg Bowl), Appalachian State (W, 31-29 vs. Ohio in the Camellia Bowl), Bowling Green (MAC Championship and GoDaddy Bowl), Ohio (Camellia), Toledo (W, 32-17 vs. Temple in the Boca Raton Bowl), and Western Michigan (W, 45-31 vs. Middle Tennessee State in the Bahamas Bowl).
The Wisconsin Badgers (10-3 overall) were ranked No. 21 in both of the final polls for 2015, while Appalachian State (11-2), Marshall (10-3), and Toledo (10-2) received votes.
Under head coach Terry Bowden, Akron finished the 2015 season at 8-5 overall with a 23-21 win over Utah State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. The Zips return 48 letterwinners, including seven starters, to their spread offense and 4-3 defense.
Season ticket plans—which include a ticket to all six home games as well as a parking pass—
start at only $60 each. Renewals (for current season ticket holders) and new seats are now available for purchase by calling 1-888-99-AKRON (25766) or visiting The C.P. and Cornelia S. Chima Athletics Ticket Office at InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field (located at 375 E. Exchange Street, near Gate 1 at the southwest corner of the venue, at the corner of E. Exchange and S. Union streets) during business hours (Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
Current season ticket holders are now able to renew online at www.GoZips.com/tickets.
All-access 10 packs are on sale now for $100, which include vouchers that can be redeemed for all six of the Zips' ticketed sports. Single-game tickets for all fall sports go on sale Monday. July 11, at 10 a.m.
