Guiser & Turner Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

AKRON, Ohio– Junior safety Zach Guiser (Fayette City, Pa.) and redshirt senior captain James Turner (Fairfield, Ohio) have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 5 football team.
A Wuerffel Trophy nominee, Guiser started seven games this fall at safety. He has 51 tackles, two break-ups, an interception, and a sack. Against Appalachian State, Guiser led the defense with a career-high 15 tackles, including seven solo stops. He was named a preseason third-team All-MAC honoree by College Sports Madness and fourth-team selection by Athlon Sports. Guiser sports a 3.992 grade-point average in pre-physical therapy/exercise science.
Also a safety, Turner has played in eight games with two starts this fall. In his first collegiate start, he led the Zips with 10 tackles in the win over VMI. At No. 10 Wisconsin, Turner had six tackles, and in the win at Kent State, he had two solo stops. Turner had two tackles and a break-up against No. 23 Western Michigan. Competing this fall as a graduate student, Turner earned his bachelor's degree in business. He has a perfect 4.00 GPA in the sport science master's program.
To be eligible for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA and must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games. District winners now move onto the national ballot for consideration for Academic All-America honors.
The Zips (5-5 overall, 3-3 MAC), under the guidance of fifth-year head coach Terry Bowden, close out their home schedule on Wednesday, Nov. 9, against Bowling Green (1-8 overall, 0-5 MAC) at 8 p.m. at InfoCision Stadium- Summa Field. ESPNU will televise the game. The Senior Class will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
