King tabbed as MAC East Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Akron senior Sina King (Waterford, Ohio) has been selected as the Mid-American Conference East Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
She was also honored as the Zips' Student-Athlete of the Week.
King capped her regular season career in grand style averaging 23.5 points and 12.5 rebounds en route to sparking the Zips to a 2-0 mark this past week. She connected on 46.8 percent (15-for-32) of her shots from the field and at a 50-percent clip (3-of-6) from downtown.
In Akron's 67-55 win over Miami last Wednesday, March 4, King posted an 18-point seven-rebound performance, including drilling a pair of three-pointers.
A dominating 29-point, 18-rebound performance followed as the Zips recorded their first-ever victory at Bowling Green on Saturday, March 7, with a come-from-behind 79-71 triumph past the Falcons.
King scored 23 of her 29 points in the decisive second half, one in which Akron trailed 36-30 at halftime, to record her conference-leading 15th double-double of the season, including eighth in league play.
Her 29 points on 9-of-18 shooting equaled a career high set twice earlier this season, while the 18 rebounds represented a new career-high mark. Her 12 defensive rebounds are the most for a Zip in a game this season.
Akron trailed 66-65 with 3:28 remaining before closing out the tilt on a 14-5 run fueled by eight points down the stretch from King.
On the season, King maintains a conference-best 20.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 48.2 percent from the field and 38 percent from beyond the arc. She has scored in double figures in every game this season and 40-straight overall. She owns 85 double-figure scoring games during her career as a Zip.
The accolade is the sixth in King's Akron career and the eighth for a Zip this season. King previously took home East Player of the Week laurels on Nov. 25, Jan. 26 and Feb. 16, while junior Anita Brown (Warren, Ohio) was recognized on Nov. 17, Dec. 1 and Jan. 20, and sophomore Hannah Plybon (Orrville, Ohio) on Jan. 12.
The Zips will open play at the MAC Tournament on Thursday, March 12, as the No. 3 seed. Akron will face a yet to be determined opponent at approximately 2:30 p.m. at Quicken Loans Arena.
