CLEVELAND, Ohio – University of Akron shooting guard Hanna Luburgh has been selected as the final Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week of the regular season, the league office announced Thursday.
This is the third time Luburgh has been honored with the MAC's weekly award, and the eighth time it has gone to an Akron player this season.
Luburgh had the hot hand in UA's road win over Buffalo last night, shooting 60 percent from the field and scoring a game-high 24 points to lead the Zips to their first ever MAC East Division crown. It was her seventh 20-plus point performance this season.
The junior scored 19 of her points in the first half on 7-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-4 from behind the arc, to add to Akron's 21-point halftime advantage. Luburgh finished the night one rebound short of a double-double with nine, and contributed to the team's 22-for-26 overall showing at the free throw line.
Toledo's Yolanda Richardson was named Player of the Week for the West Division.
Akron (21-8, 12-4 MAC) earned the No. 3 seed in next week's MAC Tournament, and will play its first game in the third round on Thursday, March 14 at 2:30 p.m. at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
