MAC Announces Week 14 Football Players of the Week MAC-Sports.com
CLEVELAND – University of Akron sophomore linebacker Jatavis Brown has been named Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Brown tallied 15 tackles, including five solo stops, to help the Zips to a 31-29 win over Toledo on Friday and their third-straight victory to end the season.
His 15 total tackles was one off from tying his career high that was set against Kent State on Nov. 2 and gave him 107 tackles for the season. He is the first Zips' sophomore to post 100-plus stops since Brian Wagner in 2010 (130).
Akron (5-7, 4-4 MAC) also closed out the year by winning four of its last five games and posted a 3-3 mark at home.
Today marks the first time Brown received this honor by the conference, and he is the sixth Zips football player this season to be recognized. Senior cornerback Malachi Freeman was named MAC East Division Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 18, junior running back Jawon Chisholm was named MAC East Division Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 4, sophomore wide receiver Andrew Pratt was chosen MAC East Division Special Teams Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 21, sophomore punter Zach Paul was named MAC East Division Special Teams Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 14 and sophomore quarterback Kyle Pohl was selected as MAC East Division Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 16.
