FORT WORTH, Texas – University of Akron senior Dalton Williams was one of 12 players to earn honorable mention recognition for the Davey O'Brien Quarterback of the Week Award on Monday, after leading the Zips to a 66-6 victory over Morgan State over the weekend and setting numerous records in the process.
Williams, who was also UA's nominee for Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week today, connected on 37-of-48 passes for 446 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday's win over the Bears. The 446 passing yards are the eighth most nationally by a player this season, and nine yards shy of tying the school's single-game record. Additionally, the 37 completions set the program's single-game mark, besting Charlie Frye's 36 that came against Kent State on Aug. 28, 2003.
A Stephen F. Austin transfer and native of Coppell, Texas, Williams led an offense that posted a school-record in points in a game (66), established a new MAC single-game mark in passing yards (565), and rolled up a school-record 753 yards of total offense (third best on the league's single-game list). The total offense yardage is also the most by a team nationally this season. Williams left the game with about two minutes remaining in the third quarter, with the score 38-6.
He has tallied 94 completions over the first three games (30 in Week 1 versus UCF, 27 in Week 2 at FIU), which broke the program record in that category as well (Frye with 89 in 2003).
Texas sophomore David Ash was the Davey O'Brien Quarterback of the Week after finishing 19-for-23 passing with a career-high 326 yards and four TDs in the Longhorns' 66-31 road win over Mississippi.
