Bowden Ball Underway with First Spring Practice Session

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron football team held its first spring practice session under new head coach Terry Bowden on Tuesday morning. Dressed in jerseys, shorts, helmets and no pads the Zips drilled for a little over two hours in sunny and warm conditions on the InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field turf.
Following practice, Bowden shared some insight on what he saw from the team and the overall plan for spring workouts.
Today was the first of 15 practices leading up to the annual Spring Game presented by Penn Station on East Exchange Street near campus on Saturday, April 21 at 3 p.m. ET at InfoCision Stadium. The squad will take to the field on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays over the next month.
Akron opens the 2012 regular season on Thursday, Aug. 30 at home versus UCF.
Zips Notebook: Including walk ons and mid-year transfers, the program enters spring camp with 106 players listed on its roster ... the roster features seven quarterbacks, including Stephen F. Austin transfer Dalton Williams ... rising sophomore Nick Rossi was seen working with the linebackers today after serving as a fullback as a true freshman in 2011 ... after competing as a safety last fall, sophomore-to-be L.T. Smith worked out with the receivers today ... redshirt freshman Cody Grice, listed as a fullback on the official roster, took reps on the defensive line. He is a product of nearby Firestone HS.
