Rifle Defeats University of the Sciences to Wrap Up First Half of Season

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The University of Akron rifle team defeated University of the Sciences, 4586-4274, in a dual match over the weekend at the Col. William Shea Rifle Range. The Zips fired a 2287 in smallbore and a 2299 in air rifle en route to the win.
The Zips are currently ranked No. 17 in the latest Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) poll.
In the smallbore division, freshman Alan Agnew earned top gun honors by outdistancing the field with an impressive 578 out of 600. Rounding out the top three were senior David Brummond (572), and senior Adam Auclair, who set a career high mark with his 570.
Air rifle also belonged to Akron as junior Victoria Brown took the top spot by shooting 582 out of 600. Also breaking into the 580's and setting a career high mark was freshman Crystal Reynolds (580). Reynolds was followed closely by Agnew and his 579.
Although the USP match concluded the first half of the season for UA, the Zips will host their annual Turkey Shoot fundraiser on Monday, November 19 and Tuesday, November 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Robert A. Pinn Shooting Range in Shrank Hall South, Room 7.
Following the Turkey Shoot, the Zips will enjoy a long holiday break as they next compete on Jan. 12-13, 2013 at the 14th annual Palmyra Invitational in Palmyra, Pa.
