AKRON, Ohio – Coming off a pair of second place finishes at last weekend's Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference Open, the University of Akron rifle team will compete in a pair of tri-matches Friday and Saturday at Ohio State. Competition from the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range in Columbus begins at 1 p.m. each day.
The Zips enter the weekend ranked No. 15 in the latest Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) poll. On Friday, Akron will compete against host and No. 12 Ohio State, along with Air Force. On Saturday, No. 1-ranked West Virginia comes into Columbus to shoot against the Zips and Buckeyes.
At last weekend's season opening MAC Open, the Zips were led by the duo of freshman Alan Agnew and junior Victoria Brown. Agnew led UA in smallbore both days with a pair of 572s. Brown had a 578 in Sunday's air rifle action and tied Agnew with a 579 in air rifle on Saturday, with Agnew earning the tiebreaker to finish fourth overall. Freshman Tori Templeton also fired 579 as she led all Akron shooters in air rifle on Sunday.
Following a weekend off, Akron will compete in its home opener on Saturday, Oct. 27 against Indiana (Pa.) and John Jay (N.Y.). Action from the Robert A. Pinn Shooting Range in Schrank Hall South will begin at 9 a.m.
