AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron football team spent two-plus hours practicing in InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field on Thursday morning. The Zips, who wore full pads today, have two more days of preseason training camp.
Much of the focus remained on situational aspects of the game and periods of the workout were done while crowd noise was played over the stadium's public address system.
This afternoon, New York Times best-selling author and motivational speaker Jon Gordon worked with the program. Gordon, who wrote The Energy Bus, Soup, and Training Camp, spoke to the group about leadership and positive strategies for life.

The Zips return to the practice field on Friday afternoon.
Akron will break training camp on Saturday with an open to the public practice from noon-2 p.m. ET at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field. Following practice, the team will participate in a fan meet-and-greet and autograph session in the west concourse. Admission and parking are free of charge.
Inflatables, interactive games, a face painter and balloon artist will be set up atop the north end zone building and along the west concourse throughout the afternoon. Those in attendance will be eligible for prize giveaways and have the opportunity to purchase season tickets.
More information about the open to the public scrimmage.
The Zips, who returns 13 starters (five offense, eight defense), open the season at Ohio State on Sept. 3 in a game scheduled to kick off at noon ET on ESPN.
The team's home opener at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field comes on Sept. 10 versus Mid-American Conference East Division opponent Temple. That game will begin at 6 p.m. ET, and be covered by ESPN3, the network's broadband channel. A variety of special events will encompass the day, including a salute to local heroes (police, fire, safety) and a Military Appreciation Day, as well as ticket promotions designed for employees of both the city of Akron and Summit County, and local motorcycle organizations.
Three-game mini-plan reserved packages and single-game tickets (excluding the Nov. 12 Kent State contest) are also available for purchase. Mini-plan packages cost just $45, a savings of $20 on face value, and include a ticket for the Kent State game and the customer's choice of two of the other five remaining home games. Single-game tickets start at $15.
Tickets can be purchased online anytime at GoZips.com/tickets, or from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET on Mondays through Fridays by either calling 1-888-99-AKRON (25766) or visiting the Akron Athletics Ticket Office at InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field (located at 375 E.
