AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron football team took to the field for the second two-a-day of its preseason training camp on Thursday, practicing at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field for two hours in full pads in the morning and another two hours at night in half pads.
The concentration of both sessions, the ninth and tenth workouts of camp, was on red zone offense and defense.

The Zips will practice in half pads on Friday afternoon and hold their first full pads scrimmage of the preseason on Saturday night.
Akron, which returns 13 starters (five offense, eight defense), will break training camp on Aug. 20 with an open to the public practice from noon-2 p.m. ET at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field. The Zips' season opener is at Ohio State on Sept. 3 in a game scheduled to kick off at noon ET on ESPN.
The team's home opener at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field comes on Sept. 10 versus Mid-American Conference East Division opponent Temple. That game will begin at 6 p.m. ET, and be covered by ESPN3, the network's broadband channel. A variety of special events will encompass the day, including a salute to local heroes (police, fire, safety) and a Military Appreciation Day, as well as ticket promotions designed for employees of both the city of Akron and Summit County, and local motorcycle organizations.
