AKRON, Ohio – University of Akron football head coach Rob Ianello, senior offensive guard Zac Kasparek and junior linebacker Brian Wagner will travel to Detroit on Tuesday, July 26, for the 2011 Mid-American Conference Football Media Day.
The three Zips' representatives will join players and coaches from each of the 13 MAC schools at Ford Field to preview the 2011 football season. Representatives for UMass, which joined the MAC as a football-only program on April 20, 2011, will attend the school's first MAC Media Day before officially joining the league for the 2012 season.
Zips fans will have the opportunity to follow all of the activities during MAC Media Day online at GoZips.com. Coverage will include live streaming of Akron's press conference from 9:00-9:10 a.m. ET, a live blog updated throughout the day with information on what's going on, pictures and videos, and a MAC Media Day show hosted by Steve French, long time voice of the Zips, that will air later that evening on GoZips.com. The conference's preseason poll will also be announced that day.
Akron enters the 2011 season following a 1-11 campaign (1-7 MAC) in Coach Ianello's first season at the helm of the Zips. UA returns 13 starters and 35 letterwinners from last season's squad, including leading tackler and Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List member Wagner.
