Sewell Signs with CFL's Edmonton Eskimos

AKRON, Ohio – Former University of Akron defensive tackle Almondo Sewell signed a free agent import contract with the CFL's Edmonton Eskimos on Friday.
Sewell, who hails from Trenton, N.J., was a three-time All-Mid-American Conference selection and finished out his UA career with 223 tackles in 48 career games played. As a senior in 2010, he posted 43 tackles (25 unassisted), two forced fumbles and one sack in 12 games (11 starts).
"Almondo possesses very good quickness and extraordinary strength," Eskimos general manager Eric Tillman said in a team-issued statement. "On pro day (held at Akron's Stile Athletics Field House) he did 44 reps on the 225-pound bench press test, putting him in the top one-per cent of college players tested this spring."
Sewell is one of two former Zips on the Eskimos' roster, joining DT Jermaine Reid on the defensive line.
Former Akron football players Jabari Arthur (Calagary Stampede) and Nate Robinson (Toronto Argonauts) are also listed on CFL rosters.
