Tecca Earns Academic All-MAC Recognition
April 19 | Women's Basketball
- Akron sophomore Rachel Tecca was named to the Academic All-MAC Team for the first time in her career, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Tecca is Akron's lone representative on the 11-member squad.
The Tallmadge, Ohio native had a tremendous sophomore campaign for the Zips, leading the team in both scoring and rebounding while setting a new program record for double-doubles in a season with 16. She became the third-ever Akron women's basketball player to garner All-MAC First Team honors for her performance. Tecca also made history by making the Capital One Academic All-District Team, a first for the program. She carries a 3.91 GPA while majoring in Corporate Financial Management.
Akron's Taylor Ruper and Natasha Williams earned Honorable Mention honors, as well.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
