Brad Childress to be Keynote Speaker at Spring Clinic

AKRON, Ohio - Former NFL head coach Brad Childress will be the keynote speaker at The University of Akron football program's second-annual Spring Clinic on Saturday, April 2 at InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field. Ricky Powers, head football coach at nearby Buchtel High School, is also scheduled to speak at the event.
The clinic is open to any coach and the cost is $35 per person or $100 for a staff. The registration fee includes participation in the clinic, lunch and admission to UA's practice at the conclusion of the day. For more information or to register, call the Akron football office at (330) 972-7466.
The event starts at 7 a.m., with registration in the House of LaRose Main Lobby of InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field. At 8:15 a.m., second-year Akron head coach Rob Ianello will address the group, leading into an offensive overview by Zips offensive coordinator John Latina and breakout sessions led by UA's offensive assistant coaches.
Childress, who spent the last five seasons as head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, will speak at 10 a.m., prior to the lunch break. He boasts 33 years of coaching experience, including 13 seasons in the NFL.
At 12:15 p.m., the defensive portion of the clinic will start, with an overview by defensive coordinator Kevin Cosgrove and breakout sessions featuring instruction from various members of the defensive staff.
Powers, who guided Buchtel HS to the 2010 Akron City Series Championship and runner-up finish in the Division III state playoffs, will speak to the group at 1:45 p.m., followed by a presentation from Craig Sowers, UA's director of football strength and conditioning, at 2:45.
The clinic concludes with a practice session open to the participants of the clinic at 3:20 p.m. The Zips begin spring practice on Wednesday, March 23 and will hold their annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 16 at 1 p.m. ET at InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field.
