Football Spring Practice Report #1
March 23 | Football
AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron football team held its first practice of the spring on Wednesday afternoon, as inclement weather forced the Zips inside Stile Athletics Field House. The squad worked out without pads and will do the same on Friday, before dressing in full pads for Saturday's session.
The first of 14 practices leading up to the annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 16 focused heavily on fundamentals and ran for two hours. About 50 Zips fans took advantage of today's practice being open to the public and found a seat in the field house bleachers to get their first look at the 2011 edition of the program.
Earlier in the day, second-year head coach Rob Ianello, second-year offensive coordinator John Latina, first-year defensive coordinator Kevin Cosgrove, and seniors Jake Anderson (OT), Zac Kasparek (OG) and Dan Marcoux (DT) visited with members of the local media to preview spring camp.
Please visit Zips Spring Football Central for complete coverage of pre-spring media day and follow updates on that page over the next three weeks.

Six Saturday home games, including a Senior Day showdown against neighborhood rival Kent State, highlight Akron's 2011 football schedule. The Zips open the season at Ohio State on Sept. 3 and face Mid-American Conference opponent Temple on Sept. 10 in their home opener. View 2011 Schedule
