Last Wagon Wheel Game in the Rubber Bowl...
Sept. 22, 2007 – Akron 27, Kent State 20
In front of 21,867 people, Akron scored 17 fourth-quarter points to claim a 27-20 victory over Kent State in the last Wagon Wheel game played at UA's Rubber Bowl.
Reggie Corner had a key interception to set up UA's go-ahead touchdown and Davanzo Tate intercepted a Julian Edelman pass in the endzone as time expired to preserve the win (pictured in the image to the right), in what was the 50th all-time meeting between the programs on the gridiron.
The victory brought the Wagon Wheel trophy back in possession of UA and started a three-game Zips' win streak in the series.
Edelman completed 8-of-21 passes for 155 yards and the two INTs, while UA quarterback Carlton Jackson went 7-for-20 for 99 yards and one interception. Jabari Arthur led the Zips' receiving corps with four catches for 63 yards, while Bryan Williams had 12 carries for 50 yards and Alex Allen 15 carries for 45 yards. Brion Stokes led the way defensively for Akron, with 10 tackles and one forced fumble.
The Flashes outgained the Zips 375-245 in total offense, but UA held a slight edge in time of possession (31:52-28:08) and first downs (16-15).
