ABOUT BOWLING GREEN
The Falcons (23-6, 12-3) bring an eight-game winning
streak to Rhodes Arena after having defeated Buffalo, 74-47, at
Anderson Arena last weekend. BGSU features three double-figure
scorers in freshman Lauren Prochaska (15.2 ppg), preseason
all-conference selection Kate Achter (14.5) and sophomore Tara
Breske (10.5). Bowling Green's only three league losses came in
succession against Miami (63-60), at Ball State (68-47) and against
Western Michigan (79-73) late last month.
The Falcons are 14-3 in away and neutral games this year and have
won the last four meetings with the Zips at Rhodes Arena dating
back to the 2003 season. Bowling Green enters play with a full-game
lead over Miami for first place in the East Division after being
picked to finish second in the preseason poll.
PLAYOFF PICTURE
The Zips will be the No. 6 seed in the East Division and
will play No. 3 seed Western Michigan (12-17, 9-6 MAC) from the
West in the second game at Quicken Loans Arena on Sunday, Mar. 9
beginning approximately at 9:30 p.m. EST.
The winner of that match-up will face the winner of Wednesday
night's Ohio at Miami contest in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Mar.
11, at 12:30 p.m.
TEAM NOTES
Wednesday's game will feature three of the top
scoring freshmen in the country in Lauren Prochaska (15.2 ppg), Kara
Murphy (14.3) and Keyla Snowden (14.3). BGSU's Prochaska
enters play tied for sixth while the Zips' duo of Murphy and
Snowden are tied for ninth overall.
Akron is the only school to have two players represented in the top
10. UCONN's Maya Moore leads all first-year players with an average
of 18.3 points per game.
Wednesday's game will also feature two of the top three
scoring tandems in the league in Bowling Green's tag team of
Prochaska and Kate Achter (29.7) and Akron's duo of Murphy and
Snowden (28.6). Only Miami's combo of Amanda Jackson and Jenna
Schone (36.3)
Along those lines, Akron has been led in scoring by a
freshman 21 times in 29 games, or 72.4 percent of the time. Snowden
has been the Zips' top scorer 11 times, followed by Murphy (9) and
Amanda Sedlack (1).
Moreover, Akron has been led in scoring by an underclassman
in all 29 games this year. Injured sophomore guard Sarah
Tokodi had that honor five times while sophomore center Riana
Miller has accomplished the task on three occasions.
UA currently leads the MAC in blocked shots (3.55/game)
despite having just two players on the roster at 6-feet or taller
and averaging more than 15 minutes per game.
The Zips are also ranked third in the league with a
collective free throw percentage of .726. Three Akron players are
ranked in the top 15 from the charity stripe, led by Keyla
Snowden (2nd/.887), Riana Miller (10th/.787) and Kara
Murphy (13th/.757).
UA is on pace to set a school record for free throw
efficiency. The 2006-07 team currently owns the top mark after
shooting .716 (405-for-566) in 29 games a year ago.
Akron starters have produced 166 of 195 (85.1 percent) of
the team's total points in the past three games. For the season, UA
starters have been responsible for 75.7 percent (1,377 of 1,819
total points) of the team's scoring.

this year. Snowden, who also reached a personal best with 26 points

moved into sole possession of 4th place on the MAC's single season
record list.
Murphy is the only Akron player to have started all 29 games
this year.
Sophomore Riana Miller, who is second in the league with an
average of 1.55 rejections per game, moved into solo possession of
third place on UA's single-season blocks list with a deflection
