February 06 | Women's Soccer
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - University of Akron assistant women's soccer coach Margaret Saurin was named head coach at IPFW, the school announced on Tuesday. Saurin, who will begin her duties with the Mastodons on Feb. 12, spent the last three seasons at UA.
"This is a great opportunity for Margaret," Akron head women's soccer coach Catherine Byrne said. "She served her time as an assistant and is more than ready for this position. It is a great loss for our program, but I wish her the best. She is a very talented young coach."
A national search for Saurin's replacement will begin immediately.
"I am pleased to welcome Margaret to our staff," IPFW director of athletics Mark Pope said. "Her experience with the Irish National Team, combined with solid Division I coaching at the University of Akron, uniquely qualifies her to lead our women's team. She also possesses outstanding recruiting skills. I'm looking forward to her leadership within our department."
ZIPS NOTES: Akron head coach Catherine Byrne announced on Tuesday that senior-to-be Leslie Bullen (Xenia, Ohio/Xenia HS) has been chosen as captain for the 2007 season. Bullen redshirted last season after suffering an ACL injury. As a junior in 2005 she led the team in scoring, with seven points (three goals and one assist).
