Men's Soccer Set to Battle Cornell in Ranked Matchup, Tom "Doc" Nash to be Honored at Halftime

AKRON, Ohio — The Akron men's soccer team will battle Cornell at FirstEnergy Stadium on Tuesday, September 8 at 7 p.m. In the latest United Soccer Coaches (USC) poll from September 1, the Zips are ranked No. 9 while the Big Red is No. 20.
Additionally, legendary former Akron assistant coach Tom "Doc" Nash will be honored at halftime. A 2010 inductee into the Akron Varsity 'A' Hall of Fame, Nash was an assistant on the 1986 team that made it to the national championship and father of former Zips men's soccer student-athletes Michael, Pat and Tim. A man of many interests and talents, Nash also served as a professor, geoscientist, park ranger, writer and cartographer. He also celebrated his 90th birthday back on June 22.
Akron (2-0-1) comes into the matchup after a road trip to West Virginia on September 3 that was called a no contest due to inclement weather. The Zips held a 1-0 lead prior to the match getting called off, as Matthew Paiva scored on a header from Tyler Morck in the first half. Their two victories this season have come against Dayton (3-0) and Wake Forest (1-0), and their tie was against Army (0-0).
The Big Red (2-0) are coming off a 2-1 victory (the program's 600th all-time) over then-No. 21 UC Santa Barbara in their home opener in which Connor Miller scored the game-winner in the 87th minute.
