University of Akron Quotes
Head Coach J.D. Brookhart
Opening Statement: "Obviously, it was unbelievable finish. We played a really good football team. Things went back and forth and we talked all year long about going three more feet in everything we do. We had ups and downs but these guys keep plugging away and it paid off. Some things fell our way, some things went against us. That's the way this game was, we were up, we were down, we were tied and we found a way to go 80 yards in 70 seconds. I feel bad right now for Coach [Joe] Novak. They are a good team and represent this league very well and he is one of my favorite people in this business."
On what was said during time out prior to score: "We basically were going to run this coverage. It wasn't in our game plan. Coach Morehead has suggested it from up top. We got a double post pattern. Luke ad-libbed a little and pumped the inside post and drew the safety and got Domenik over the top. I didn't tell them anything. They're doing what we do and playing football."
On appearance in first major bowl game: "It's huge for the university, for the athletic department and for our program. This was the best three hour advertisement that I could have ever asked for tonight. Last year we created some excitement. We did some things almost got into a bowl game, wanted to represent the East Division, didn't quite get that done but had a Senior Bowl MVP."
On the difficulty to win a MAC Championship:
"It's hard. What we went through this year made people question
what we were at times. We played so well against Northern Illinois
the first time and then shut it down and not come out with the
energy and excitement it takes to be a good football team. This
league is very balanced to me from a talent level standpoint."

Quarterback Luke Getsy
On interception thrown on second-to-last possession: "I was frustrated. I threw it a little high, but as soon as I got to the sideline I was like, `We have three time outs left, we can do this.' We just had to keep believing and that was what we have been doing all season."
On whether Akron's offense wore down NIU's defense: "You never know. We started to run a little no huddle offense. It wears you down a little bit."
Wide Receiver Domenik Hixon
On scoring play and route: "Coach asked me if I could get by the defender and I said, "Yes.' I was glad he had the confidence in me to call the play and Luke had the confidence to throw it to me."
