SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Dec. 3) -- Syracuse blitzed Akron, 39-19, in the first half and dealt the Zip women's basketball team its fifth straight loss, 83-47, at Manley Field House.

Senior center Cheryl Bowles and sophomore guard Hollie Stephenson each had 10 points to lead the Zips. Bowles added nine rebounds, but was pressured into 3-of-15 shooting from the floor and committed five turnovers. Akron had 24 turnovers as a team and shot 29 percent from the field.

The Big East Conference Orange pounded Akron the glass, 61-38, including 30 offensive rebounds. Jaime James, Jazmine Wright and Paula Moore each had 10 points for SU.

The Zips were without the services of senior wing Katie Hank who suffered a knee injury Friday in a loss to South Carolina.

Coach Roxanne Allen's club returns to action Tuesday (Dec. 5) against rival Cleveland State at James A. Rhodes Arena. Tip time is 7 p.m. It will be Akron's home opener after six road games to start the season.
