Matt Futch is in his second season as a graduate assistant onthe UA coaching staff, joining the staff after spending the pasttwo seasons as an assistant coach at St. Vincent-St. Mary HighSchool in Akron, Ohio.
While an assistant at SVSM, he helped the boys basketball teamwin the 2011 Division II state championship. In 2010, he helped theIrish to a spot in the regional finals. He also served as the headcoach for the freshman team. During the 2010-11 season, he was alsoan assistant coach for the east team at the 2010 McDonald'sAll-American Game.
Before joining the SVSM staff, he spent one season with his almamatar, Buchtel High School, as a volunteer coach (2008-09).
After concluding his playing career at Akron, he spent twoseasons playing professional basketball. In 2006, he played oneseason in Portugal while spending 2007 playing ball in Mexico.
In three seasons for the Zips from 2003-06, Futch averaged 3.8ppg and 2.7 rpg while appearing in 86 career games (56 starts).
A standout player at Akron's Butchel High School, he average 15points, 11 rebounds and four blocks as a senior, leading his teamto a 17-6 record. He earned all-state honors as a junior and seniorwhile earning a nomination for the McDonald's All-America team as asenior.
The 2010 graduate of The University of Akron, Futch earned hisbachelors degree in sports management and a masters degree insports administration in 2012 and is currently pursuing a mastersdegree in communications. He has twin daughters, Sarah andSamyra.
