Joshua Jones joined the Akron Zips men's basketball program in April 2026.
Prior to joining the Zips, Jones spent six seasons at North Dakota State, serving as an assistant coach with the Bison.
The 2025-26 season saw the Bison post a 27-8 overall record and a 14-2 record in the Summit League. North Dakota State claimed both the regular and conference tournament titles, finishing its season in the NCAA Tournament in Buffalo, N.Y., falling to Michigan State in the first round.
The Bison's 27 wins in 2025-26 were the most victories for a Bison squad since joining the Summit League, eclipsing the 26 victories set during the 2008-09 and 2013-14 seasons.
Jones came to NDSU from Western Illinois University, where he served as an assistant coach for four seasons from 2016-20.
Prior to his time at WIU, Jones was an assistant at Division II Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo., for two seasons from 2014-16.

A former NCAA Division I standout, Jones helped lead the Blue Tigers to their most successful season in 15 years during the 2015-16 season. Lincoln won 16 games, went 12-2 at home and won its first postseason game since 1987. The Blue Tigers beat three teams who ended up qualifying for the NCAA Division II Central Regional and broke or tied eight single-season records.
One of the winningest players in Eastern Kentucky history, Jones spent the 2013-14 season as a graduate assistant at his alma mater. Jones, who is 19th on EKU's career scoring list with 1,192 points, started all four years, including all but two games during his final three seasons with the Colonels. As a player, Jones led Eastern Kentucky to 76 victories over four years.
In his only season as a graduate assistant, Jones helped guide the Colonels to an Ohio Valley Conference tournament championship and a berth in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship tournament.Â

A native of Indianapolis, Jones earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management from Eastern Kentucky in 2012.
