Alex Kline, Jr., is in his third season as the Zips’ director of recruiting and high school relations in 2021 and took on coaching responsibilities with Akron's wide receivers in the summer of 2021.
He comes to Akron after serving as an offensive coaching assistant working with the quarterbacks at Pittsburgh during the 2018 season. Kline was elevated by the Panthers after working as a recruiting assistant in the spring.
Kline joined Pitt after four seasons at Saint Vincent College. He began his stint as a graduate assistant and wide receivers coach in 2014. He added passing game coordinator duties for the 2015 season, and moved into the offensive coordinator role for the 2017 and 2018 seasons while coaching with wide receivers. During his tenure, the Bearcats set nine offensive records, including most touchdown passes in a season (29), most touchdown passes in a game (7), and highest passing efficiency in a season (152.1). In 2016, Saint Vincent led the conference in passing yards per game (300), which ranked 29th nationally, and red zone scoring (84%) as five players earned All-Conference accolades.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Kline earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from John Carroll in 2014 and a master’s degree in management sciences from Saint Vincent College in 2016.
A three-year starter and All-Conference honoree at John Carroll, he served as team captain as a senior in 2013. Kline was a two-year member of the Leadership Council.
Kline, 27, was a 2009 All-Conference selection at wide receiver from Pittsburgh North Catholic High School where he was a three-sport athlete, including a two-time WPIAL champion in basketball.
