For the second consecutive week, senior linebacker Jatavis Brown (Belle Glade, Fla.) has been tabbed the Zips' Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by The University of Akron, Ohio's Polytechnic University.
Additionally, Brown was tabbed the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the East Division.
In the 37-28 win at Miami (Ohio), Brown had a very busy day. He led all defenders with 11 tackles, two sacks, a career-high 4.5 TFL, a forced fumble, a break-up, and the first interception of his career.
With his two sacks, Brown set the school record for sacks in a season [the previous record was 10.0 sacks, held by Jason Taylor (1996) and Ken Williams (1993)]. He now has 10.5 sacks with two regular-season games remaining.
After 10 games, Brown has 88 tackles, a team-best 16.0 TFL, and a team-best 10.5 sacks for a loss of 80 yards, three hurries, two forced fumbles, and an interception.
