Zips are Back at FirstEnergy Stadium on Thursday against Cleveland State

AKRON, Ohio - The Akron women's soccer team is back in action at FirstEnergy Stadium after a three-match road stretch, hosting Cleveland State on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 6:30 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY
Thursday's match is the 15th meeting between the two teams as Akron holds a 10-4-0. The Zips won the last three meetings 1-0 in Akron (2021), 3-1 on the road (2023) and 1-0 in Akron (2024). The Vikings last win came in 2019, 2-1, in Cleveland.

SCOUTING REPORT
Cleveland State will be looking for its first result of the season on Thursday as the Vikings currently stand at 0-4 on the season. CSU suffered setbacks from Kent State (3-0), Eastern Kentucky (5-0), Duquesne (3-0) and Morehead State (2-0).

OPEN THE SEASON WITH BACK-TO-BACK WINS
The Akron Zips women's soccer team opened the 2026 season with a 3-Nil win over Oakland as Rachel Wenzel scored a pair of goals and Sara Bower pitched a shutout at the Zips home opener at FirstEnergy Stadium. Wenzel netted the Zips first goal of the season in the 33rd minute on an assist by Olivia Heskett and Addison Hall. Emma Ogdahl followed with her first collegiate goal on an assist from Callee DalBon in the 42nd minute. Wenzel found the back of the net for a second time, scoring off a pass from Olivia Pilato in the 78th minute to give Akron the 3-0 advantage. Bower recorded four saves in the shutout effort.

Akron moved to 2-0 on the season with a 2-1 win over Southern Indiana The Zips recorded the first goal of the match as Grace Shondel registered the initial goal on an assist from Eesha Sutharshan in the 66th minute. The Eagles responded quickly with the equalizer, knotting the match 1-1 in the 68th minute. UA's Callee DalBon responded with what proved to be the game winner in the 82nd minute as Hattie Yugovich and Olivia Pilato provided the assists.

Akron suffered its first setback of the season at Duquesne (2-0) , despite holding a 16-9 advantage in shots. Akron rounded out the three-match road swing with a second loss at Louisville, (5-0).

ALL-MAC IN 2025
University of Akron women's soccer standouts junior Jordanne Oberhaus and freshman Addison Hall garnered All-Mid-American Conference accolades when the league unveiled its 2025 award winners in a vote of the league coaches released on Friday (Oct. 31).

Oberhaus headlined the Zips' award winners as she was selected as a Second-Team honoree, while Hall was tabbed to the All-Freshman team.

IT'S OFFICIAL
Maggie Kuhn was officially named the head coach of the Akron women's soccer team on December 11, 2025. Kuhn served as the Interim Head Coach for the Zips during the 2025 campaign and will enter her fifth season overall with the Akron program in 2026.
