Amundson Hits Two Home Runs, Drives in Six Runs in Loss to Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Easton Amundson put together a brilliant showing at the plate Tuesday, going 5-for-5 with two home runs and six RBI, but the Akron Zips fell to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies 13-10.
Landon Vandegrift (2-2) came out of the bullpen for Akron (21-31) and took the loss. Taylor Bednar was a bright spot for the Zips, starting the ballgame and throwing three innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits, with one walk and three strikeouts. Nathan Currah threw one inning in relief where he allowed just two hits, one run, while striking out two.
Amundson went 5-for-5 at the plate, supplementing his two home runs with a double while driving in six runs. Kyle McConachie added to Amundson's awesome power-hitting performance by going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Kelton Phillips also chipped in for the Zips, going 3-for-6 with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got the scoring started early, putting three runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Akron picked up three runs in the frame.
The Golden Grizzlies then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 3-2 until the Zips expanded their advantage in the fourth. Akron managed to push across two runs in the inning, which brought the score to 5-2 in favor of the Zips.
Oakland narrowed Akron's lead to 5-4 before the Zips stretched the advantage to 6-4 in the sixth inning.
Akron surrendered the lead they built in the sixth, but got back on the board in the seventh trailing 10-6. Blake Bowen and Amundson came in to score the two Zips runs in the frame, tightening the Oakland lead to 10-8.
Oakland built on their lead to 13-8 before the Zips offense got in action, narrowing that lead to 13-10 in the ninth. Akron managed to push across two runs in the inning. The ballgame ended with that ninth inning rally falling short.
