Zips Rack Up 17 Hits in 9-6 Victory at Ohio

ATHENS, Ohio - The Akron baseball team racked up 17 hits, led by Brody Chrisman's four and Easton Amundson's three, to defeat the Ohio Bobcats 9-6 on Saturday.
Chrisman finished the night with a 4-for-5 performance, while driving in two runs, scoring once and drawing a walk. Amundson went 3-for-5 with a triple, an RBI, two runs and a walk. Kelton Phillips walked three times, drove in two runs, scored twice and recorded a hit. Blake Bowen and Brady Bowen both recorded two hits and one RBI. Prince DeBoskie recorded a pair of hits while scoring one.
Parker Munday (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Akron (19-24, 9-14). The southpaw went three shutout innings while giving up two hits, allowing one walk and striking out five. Floyd McKenna also made an impact on the mound for the Zips, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing no hits, with one walk and one strikeout to earn the save.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the third inning. Akron scored twice, with one run coming across on Amundson's single.
The Zips lost the lead they built in the third, but got back on the board in the fourth trailing 4-2. Akron scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Blake Bowen, which tightened the Bobcats lead to 4-3.
Akron held the Bobcats off the board before rallying to grab a 7-4 lead in the fifth. The Zips bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Kelton Phillips.
Akron held the Bobcats without a run before building on their lead in the eighth inning. The Zips scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Chrisman, bringing the Akron advantage to 8-4.
Ohio got within 8-6 until the Zips scored again in the ninth inning to stretch its lead to 9-6. Amundson came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board. The score remained 9-6 for the rest of the game, as the Zips held on for the win.
