Zips Cruise Past Penguins on Tuesday, 11-1

AKRON, Ohio - The Akron baseball team cruised past the Youngstown State Penguins 11-1 at Skeeles Field on Tuesday to begin a busy week.
At the plate, the Zips were paced by Brody Chrisman, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run and two RBI. Brady Bowen furnished a noteworthy performance as well, going 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Mitchel Szymczak also helped out for Akron, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
John Allen (1-1) got the win for Akron (16-20). The left-hander went four shutout innings, giving up one hit, no walks and striking out two. Parker Munday also pitched well, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit, walking one and striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Akron's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Bowen.
The Penguins failed to push any runs across before the Zips built on their lead in the third inning. Bowen came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron, which brought the Zips lead to 7-0.
Akron kept Youngstown State scoreless before expanding their lead to 8-0 the following inning.
The Penguins gained ground, closing the gap to 8-1 until Akron added some insurance in the seventh. bringing the Akron advantage to 11-1.Â
