The University of Akron Announces Contract Extension through 2035 for Head Men's Soccer Coach Jared Embick

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron (UA) and head men's soccer coach Jared Embick have agreed to a nine-year extension as part of an overall 10-year commitment, which will run through the 2035 season, UA President R.J. Nemer and Director of Athletics Dr. Andrew T. Goodrich announced on Thursday. (March 26).
"Under Coach Embick's exceptional leadership, the men's soccer program has demonstrated consistent excellence," said UA President R.J. Nemer. "He is a committed mentor who inspires student-athletes to excel in the classroom and on the field. Coach Embick has led his teams with integrity and Zips pride, and the success of the program has elevated our campus community and the surrounding area. We are excited he will continue in this important leadership role."

"His impact on the players, campus, and community have been massive, and we truly believe that he will lead this team to compete for national championships in the years to come."
Embick became the Akron's seventh head coach following the conclusion of the 2012 campaign. This past fall, he completed his 13th season as head coach at Akron, 19th campaign overall with the Zips, having amassed a 158-66-39 overall record. Since the start of the 2007 season, Embick's first at Akron, the Zips have posted the highest winning percentage in the nation with an overall record of 268-79-55 (.735).
"My family is excited to stay in Akron; it is a place we consider home," said Embick. "I have always believed there is no better place to coach college soccer than Akron. I would like to thank President Nemer and Dr. Goodrich for their belief in me to continue to lead this program. I would like to also express my
gratitude to my staff, associate head coach Ger Coppinger and assistant coaches Michael Nanchoff and Attila Schmidt for all the effort they have put into the program to make it so successful. They are extremely talented coaches, and we are fortunate to have them at Akron. I am determined to build on the legacy and foundation of Stu Parry and all the other great coaches we have had at Akron. Our goal is to win more National Championships and continue to be premier program in the country."

During Embick's time at Akron, the Zips captured the program's first ever NCAA National Championship in 2010 en route to winning 13 regular season and 11 conference tournament titles, 16 trips to the NCAA Tournament, five College Cup berths and three appearances in the NCAA final.
In Embick's 13 campaigns as head coach, the Zips have earned 10 NCAA Tournament berths and three College Cup appearances (six overall in program history), including advancing to the title match in 2018. Akron's 158 victories rank eighth in all of men's Division I since 2013. He led the BIG EAST Conference Coaching Staff of the Year in 2024 after being honored as the Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year in 2019 and 2022.

The Zips won the 2024 BIG EAST regular season championship and have won back-to-back BIG EAST Midwest Division titles during the 2024 and 2025 campaigns, respectively. The Zips have garnered 12 United Soccer Coaches All-America selections and six Scholar All-America awards since 2013.

 This fall will mark his 18th season as a head coach having registered a 205-87-47 (.674) overall record. The Zips will open their 2026 campaign welcoming Dayton to FirstEnergy Stadium on Aug. 20, 2026.
