Pair of Weekend Meets on Tap for Akron Track and Field

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron track and field team is set to compete at a pair of weekend meets as the Zips will travel to Chicago for the Windy City Invitational as well as the Doug Raymond Invitational hosted by Kent State this Friday (Feb. 6) and Saturday (Feb. 7).

HIPPLE NAMED MAC WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Junior Megan Hipple (Warren, Ohio) was recognized by the Mid-American Conference as its women's Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday (Feb. 3).
Hipple ran a school-record time of 15:53.23 to win the women's 5,000 meters at the Meyo Invitational on Jan. 30. Her performance is the top-rated time in the MAC this season and ranks 44th in the NCAA on the campaign.
LAST TIME OUT:
The University of Akron track and field team recorded 10 top five performances to highlight the efforts of the Zips at a trio of meets on Saturday (Jan. 31).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Hipple ran a school-record time of 15:53.23 to win the women's 5,000 meters at the Meyo Invitational on Jan. 30
• Freshman Noah Nyageo (Kitale, Kenya) registered a personal-best time of 14:12.62 to best the field in the men's 5,000 meters with the No. 3 time in indoor program history at the Meyo Invitational on Jan. 30.
• Redshirt senior Brook Boes (Tiffin, Ohio) won the women's weight throw with a personal-best mark of 66-0.50 (20.13m), the No. 5 mark in indoor program history at the Penn State National.
• Junior Jordan Thompson-Seay (Bratenahl, Ohio) placed second in the men's high jump with a mark of 6-4.25 (1.94m) at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational.
• Junior AJ Jordan (Columbus, Ohio) finished second in the men's 200 meters in a time of 21.45 at the Penn State National.
• Sophomore Kaden Rambatt (Sharon, Wis.) eclipsed 16-5.25 (5.01m) to place third in the men's pole vault at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational.
• The women's 4x400 relay team of senior Vanessa Horn (Ludwigsfelde, Germany), sophomore Mariyah Moore (Cleveland, Ohio), senior McKenzie McNitt (Cleveland, Ohio) and freshman Jackline Nanjala (Kitale, Kenya) finished third in a school-record time of 3:41.04.
NATIONAL RANKINGS: The University of Akron track and field teams has garnered recognition for their efforts during the 2025 indoor season as the Zips are rated among the Top 30 in the Event Squad rankings for eight events released on Feb. 3, 2026, as part of the United States Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index.
Akron is rated 10th nationally in the men's shot put, 11th in the men's pole vault, 13th in the women's shot put, 14th in the women's pole vault and women's weight throw, 25th in the men's weight throw and women's 5,000 meters 30th for women's triple jump.
ZIPS RANK AMONG NATION'S BEST IN 2026 TFRRS RANKINGS: Akron has five individual student-athletes ranked in the Top 50 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) for the 2026 indoor campaign as redshirt senior Cassidy Allen (Lakewood, N.Y.) is 15th in the women's pole vault (14-1.75/4.31m).
Additionally, Brook Boes is 30th in the women's weight throw (65-0.75/19.83m) and 37th in the women's shot put (52-2.75/15.92m), Owen Wendl is 40th in the men's shot put (59-4.25/18.09m), Megan Hipple is 44th in the women's 5,000 meters (15:53.23) and AJ Jordan is 50th in the men's 200 meters (21.12).
CRACKING THE ALL-TIME TOP FIVE PERFORMANCES: The Zips have added 11 overall top five performances and a pair of school records in program history to the record book during the 2026 indoor campaign.
