Akron Falls 4-3 and 3-1 at Blue Raider Classic

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. --Akron dropped the first two games of the Blue Raider Classic against Middle Tennessee State (4-3) and UT Martin (3-1) on Friday.
GAME 1 --Despite picking up eight hits in the ballgame and out-hitting Middle Tennessee, Akron was unable to push across more runs, as the Zips lost to the Blue Raiders 4-3 Friday.
The Zips were led by Meagan Lee went 2 for 4 with an RBI, while Sydney Selker, who went 1 for 3 with a home run and an RBI. Sophia Wygast also drove a run across the plate  with one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
S. Selker (0-1) got the ball to start for Akron (5-11) and took the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Akron got an RBI single from Wygast, scoring B. Sivek from second base.
The Zips lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the sixth trailing 4-1. Akron scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Lee, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Blue Raiders.
Akron held the Blue Raiders off the scoreboard before narrowing the gap to 4-3 in the seventh. The ballgame ended with that seventh inning rally falling short.

GAME 2 --The Akron Zips put together an admirable performance on Friday, but ultimately came up short, losing to the UT Martin Skyhawks by the score of 3-1.
In the batter's box, the Zips managed six hits from six different players as Kylie Bailey went 1 for 1 with a triple and the lone RBI. Lily Sullivan collected the Zips second extra-base hit with a double, while Lee, Wygast, Haley Glass and Kenzie Gatti scattered singles.
M. Walters (1-5) got the ball to start for Akron (5-12) and took the loss. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on seven hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 3-0 in the seventh inning when they first put runs on the board. Akron scratched across a run off J. Fox when Bailey tripled in K. Gatti. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
