Zips Sweep Doubleheader with Presbyterian on Saturday

CLINTON, S.C. - The Akron baseball team swept the Presbyterian Blue Hose 8-7 and 9-2 in a doubleheader on Saturday.

Three Zips recorded multiple RBI in an 8-7 victory over Presbyterian on Saturday
Brody Chrisman's two extra-base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-3 day, and included two doubles and an RBI. Blake Bowen put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and two RBI. Brennan Morgan also contributed to the Zips' efforts, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding two RBI. Easton Amundson notched two RBI on a double for the Zips.
Trieg Matthews (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Akron (1-2). The left-hander went 1.2 shutout innings without giving up a hit, allowing three walks and striking out two. Tyalor Bednar earned his first save of the season, throwing 0.1 innings of work, while striking out one to finish the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Akron plated two runs off of Presbyterian pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Amundson.
The Zips kept the deficit at 3-2 before taking the lead in the fifth. Akron scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-RBI double from Bowen, which brought the Zips' lead to 5-3.
Akron held Presbyterian without a run before building its lead to 8-3 in the seventh inning. The Zips added three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-run single off the bat of Morgan. Presbyterian put four runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Akron still held on for the 8-7 win.

Eight Zips recorded a hit as the Blue and Gold finished a doubleheader sweep of Presbyterian with a 9-2 victory.
Henry Hayman and Mitchel Szymczak led the Zips with three and two hits, respectively. Both recorded an RBI while Hayman scored twice. Kelton Phillips showed off his speed with three stolen bases against the Blue Hose.
Cy Herchelroath (1-0) started on the mound and picked up the win for Akron (2-2). The left-hander went five innings, giving up one run on one hit, allowing two walks and striking out three. John Allen also made an impact on the mound for the Zips, throwing three innings, giving up one run on four hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the third inning. Akron's offense started clicking and put up eight runs, including a two-run home run off the bat of Brody Chrisman.
The Zips then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the fifth inning after the Blue Hose cut it to 8-1. Henry Hayman came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron, which brought the Zips' lead to 9-1. Presbyterian put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Akron still coasted to the 9-2 win.
