Morgan Records 2 Extra Base Hits in Akron's Loss to Western Illinois

MILLINGTON, Tenn. Brennan Morgan collected two extra base hits, but the Akron Zips fell to the Western Illinois Leathernecks 16-8 Friday.
Samuel Guadamuz (0-0) got the ball to start for Akron (2-3) and took the loss.
Morgan's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-3 day, and included two doubles and an RBI. Easton Amundson compiled a standout performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a home run, two walks and three RBIs. Kyle McConachie also chipped in for the Zips, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 5-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Akron got on the board thanks to Morgan's RBI double with two outs.
The Zips deficit expanded to 7-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the fourth inning. Akron picked up two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from McConachei, which tightened the Leathernecks lead to 7-3.
Akron kept the Leathernecks off the board before narrowing the gap to 7-5 in the fifth.
The Leathernecks expanded their lead to 13-5 before the Akron offense got back to work, biting into that lead in the seventh. The inning resulted in three runs for the Zips, all of them scoring on a three-run homer off the bat of Amundson to , tightening the Western Illinois lead to 13-8. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Western Illinois added three runs to their tally on the way to a 16-8 final.
