PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Matt Dreas's 84th-minute goal powered the Akron men's soccer team to a 1-1 draw with Providence in their first-ever trip to The Ocean State.

Meeting for the first time since 2023, the Friars struck first in the 36th minute to take the 1-0 lead. It was the only shot they managed the entire half despite Akron having nine shot attempts in the period.

The Zips had a quick shot by Matthew Paiva one minute into the second half that was saved. Nolan McGuire also had a shot on goal in the 55th minute and so did Dreas in the 71st.

Akron outshot Providence, 19-6, in the match and had 14 corner kick opportunities compared to just two for the Friars. Brett Kaminski also notched three saves in net for the Zips.
