Akron Competes at Spire Jumps/Throws Festival

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron track and field team will resume its 2025-26 indoor campaign traveling to Geneva, Ohio, for the Spire/Throws America Throws/Jumps Festival on Saturday (Jan. 10).
UP NEXT: The 16-event collegiate meet will commence with the women's weight throw at 11 a.m. before the meet concludes with the men's discus at approximately 6 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT:
The Akron track and field team captured 13 victories as part of 37 overall top three performances to highlight the efforts of the Zips at the Third Annual Haynes Lancaster Open at the Stile Athletics Field House on Dec. 12, 2025.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Redshirt senior Brook Boes (Tiffin, Ohio) recorded the fourth-best mark in indoor program history in the women's shot put with a throw of 52-2.75 (15.92m) to win the event. She also won the women's weight throw with a career-best mark of 65-0.75 (19.83m), the fifth-best performance in indoor program history.
• Senior Vanessa Horn (Ludwigsfelde, Germany) posted the second-fastest time in indoor program history in the women's 400 meters winning the race in 54.31.
• Junior AJ Jordan (Columbus, Ohio) captured the men's 200 meters in a career-best time of 21.12, the fourth-fastest time in indoor program history.
• Redshirt senior Cassidy Allen (Lakewood, N.Y.) eclipsed a career-best mark of 14-1.75 (4.30m) in the women's pole vault to finish first with the No. 4 mark in indoor program history.
• Junior Andrew Styles (Freeport, Bahamas) won the men's 400 meters in a time of 48.11.
• Redshirt senior Owen Wendl (Medina, Ohio) took the men's shot put with a mark of 58-6.50 (17.84m).
• Redshirt senior Ruth Webb (Akron, Ohio) won the women's triple jump with a career-best mark of 38-5 (11.71m).
• Freshman Owen Gahring (Willard, Ohio) bested the field in the men's 800 meters in a career-best time of 1:54.59.
• Sophomore Jadyn Towns (Berlin Heights, Ohio) won the women's 800 meters in a career-best time of 2:21.16.
• Sophomore Mariyah Moore (Cleveland, Ohio) took the women's 200 meters in a career-best time of 24.99.
• The men's 4x400 relay team of junior Braylyn Farrington (Alabaster, Ala.), Jordan, junior Bram de Raedt (Houthalen-Helchteren, Belgium) and Styles crossed the line first in 3:18.53.
• The women's 4x400 relay team of Horn, Moore and freshmen Ivy Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Jackline Nanjala (Kitale, Kenya) bested the field in a time of 3:51.65.
NATIONAL RANKINGS: The University of Akron track and field teams garnered recognition for their efforts during the 2025 outdoor season as the Zips were rated among the Top 30 in the Event Squad rankings for six events released on May 20, 2025, as part of the United States Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index.
Akron was rated ninth nationally in the men's pole vault, 13th in the men's shot put, 17th in the men's hammer and women's hammer, 21st in the men's discus and 22nd in the women's discus.
ZIPS RANK AMONG NATION'S BEST IN 2025 TFRRS RANKINGS: Akron has 16 individual student-athletes ranked in the Top 50 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) for the 2025 indoor campaign as Cassidy Allen and Vanessa Horn are rated fourth in the nation in the women's pole vault (14-1.25/4.30m) and 400 meters (54.31), respectively.
Additionally, AJ Jordan is sixth in the men's 200 meters (21.12), Brook Boes is ninth in the women's shot put (52-2.75/15.92m) and 11th in the women's weight throw (65-0.75/19.83m), Jackline Nanjala is 11th in the women's 400 meters (55.34), sophomore Isaac Baltic (Medina, Ohio) is 14th in the men's pole vault (17-0.75/5.20m), Andrew Styles is 19th in the men's 400 meters (48.11), Owen Wendl is 19th in the men's shot put (58-6.50/17.84m), Braylyn Farrington is 24th in the men's 400 meters (48.23), redshirt senior Gabrielle Griffiths (Fort Worth, Texas) is 27th in the women's weight throw (60-7.75/18.48m), Owen Gahring is 28th in the men's 800 meters (1:54.59), sophomore Jalen McCoy (Rochester, N.Y.) is 28th in the men's 400 meters (48.47), x Tayven Crump (Vandalia, Ohio) is 29th in the men's 800 meters (1:54.80), freshman Ty Munroe (Lewis Center, Ohio) is 31st in the men's 800 meters (1:54.94), junior Titus Kirui (Eldoret, Kenya) is 42nd in the men's 3,000 meters (8:05.95) and senior Benjamin Hudak (Tallmadge, Ohio) is 46th in the men's long jump (23-4.50/7.12m).
CRACKING THE ALL-TIME TOP FIVE PERFORMANCES: The Zips have added six overall top five performances and one school record in program history to the record book during the 2026 indoor campaign.
