Akron Track and Field Set for Jud Logan Memorial

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron track and field team travels to Kent, Ohio, to compete in the Jud Logan Memorial hosted by Kent State on Friday (Jan. 23).

The 31-event meet will commence with the women's high jump, shot put, pole vault and weight throw and the men's long jump at 2 p.m. before the meet concludes with the men's 4x400 relay at approximately 8:45 p.m.

ALLEN EARNS MAC WEEKLY HONORS:
Akron redshirt senior Cassidy Allen (Lakewood, N.Y.) was recognized by the Mid-American Conference as its women's Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday (Jan. 20).
Allen won the women's pole vault at the Al Campbell Invitational on Jan. 16 with a career-best clearance of 14-1.75 (4.31m). Her mark ranks first in the MAC and ninth in the NCAA.

LAST TIME OUT:
The University of Akron track and field team captured three victories as part of 22 overall top three performances at the Seventh Annual Al Campbell Invitational on Friday (Jan. 16) at the Stile Athletics Field House.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Cassidy Allen registered a career-best mark of 14-1.75 (4.31m) to win the women's pole vault.
• Sophomore Isaac Baltic (Medina, Ohio) won the men's pole vault eclipsing 16-11 (5.16m), while sophomore Kaden Rambatt (Sharon, Wis.) placed second with a career-best mark of 16-11 (5.16m).
• The men's 4x400 relay team of freshmen Tayven Crump (Vandalia, Ohio) and Owen Gahring (Willard, Ohio), sophomore Jared Newenhisen (Barberton, Ohio) and freshman Ty Munroe (Lewis Center, Ohio) won the race in 3:22.35.
• Redshirt senior Owen Wendl (Medina, Ohio) finished second in the men's elite shot put with a throw of 58-3.75 (17.77m).
• Senior Vanessa Horn (Ludwigsfelde, Germany) placed second in the women's 200 meters in a time of 55.76.
• Junior Jordan Thompson-Seay (Bratenahl, Ohio) won the men's high jump equaling a career-best mark of 6-6.75 (2.00m).
• Redshirt senior Brook Boes (Tiffin, Ohio) was second in the women's elite weight throw with a mark of 64-8 (19.71m).
• Junior Braeden Quigley (Avon Lake, Ohio) captured the men's shot put with a career-long throw of 53-0.25 (16.16m).
• Freshman Jackline Nanjala (Kitale, Kenya) recorded a career-best time of 2:23.79 to finish second in the women's 800 meters.
• Juniors AJ Jordan (Columbus, Ohio), Rennie Gittens, Jr. (Miami, Fla.) and Andrew Styles (Freeport, Bahamas) placed second in the 60, 200 and 400 meters, respectively, in times of 6.76, 21.93 and 48.83. The efforts of Jordan and Gittens, Jr., represented career-best times.
• Junior Titus Kirui (Eldoret, Kenya) finished second in the men's mile in a time of 4:11.47.
• Sophomore Sloane Sypolt (Louisville, Ohio) placed second in the women's shot put with a career-best throw of 43-1.50 (13.14m).

NATIONAL RANKINGS: The University of Akron track and field teams garnered recognition for their efforts during the 2025 outdoor season as the Zips were rated among the Top 30 in the Event Squad rankings for six events released on May 20, 2025, as part of the United States Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index.
Akron was rated ninth nationally in the men's pole vault, 13th in the men's shot put, 17th in the men's hammer and women's hammer, 21st in the men's discus and 22nd in the women's discus.

ZIPS RANK AMONG NATION'S BEST IN 2026 TFRRS RANKINGS: Akron has seven individual student-athletes ranked in the Top 50 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) for the 2026 indoor campaign as Cassidy Allen is ninth in the women's pole vault (14-1.75/4.31m).

Additionally, AJ Jordan is 16th in the men's 200 meters (21.12), Vanessa Horn is 24th in the nation in the 400 meters (54.31), Brook Boes is 26th in the women's shot put (52-2.75/15.92m) and 27th in the women's weight throw (65-0.75/19.83m), Isaac Baltic is 35th in the men's pole vault (17-0.75/5.20m), Kaden Rambatt is 40th in the men's pole vault (16-11/5.16m) and Owen Wendl is 44th in the men's shot put (58-6.50/17.84m).
