Akron to Host Seventh Annual Al Campbell Invitational

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron track and field team will host the Seventh Annual Al Campbell Invitational on Friday (Jan. 16) at the Stile Athletics Field House.
DIGITAL TICKETING: Mobile tickets are available for $10 at www.GoZips.com/tickets and must be purchased in advance. Mobile ticketing will be utilized for all home Akron track and field meets this season. Akron students with valid ID will be admitted free of charge. All fans should enter through the Akron student recreation center main entrance. Doors will open to the public at 2:15 p.m. on Friday.
PARKING UPDATE: Akron track and field fans are encouraged to park in Lots 1 (Corner of Carroll and Spicer Streets), 6, 9 and 10 for track and field meets. Parking in other lots without appropriate UA permit is subject to ticketing by parking services.
UP NEXT: Akron welcomes Ashland, Canisius, Capital, Charleston, Cleveland State, Grove City, Hillsdale, Indiana (Pa.), Kent State, Lake Erie, Lawrence Tech, Marietta, Mount Union, Oakland, Robert Morris, Ursuline, Walsh, Westminster, West Virginia State and York to the Stile Athletics Field House for the meet on Friday (Jan. 16).
The 36-event meet will commence with the women's high jump, long jump and weight throw and the men's long jump, pole vault and shot put at 3 p.m. before the meet concludes with the men's 4x400 relay at approximately 7:30 p.m.

BOES AND WENDL EARN MAC WEEKLY HONORS:
Akron redshirt seniors Brook Boes (Tiffin, Ohio) and Owen Wendl (Medina, Ohio) were honored by the Mid-American Conference as its men's and women's Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday (Jan. 14).
Boes placed third overall in the women's weight throw at the Spire Throws America Throws/Jump Festival on Saturday (Jan. 10) recording a mark of 64-9.25 (19.74m), which was the top throw among collegiate competitors and ranks first in the MAC.
Wendl registered a mark of 57-2.25 (17.43m) in the men's elite shot put at the Spire Throws America Throws/Jump Festival on Saturday (Jan. 10) to post the top mark by a collegian and placed sixth overall in the elite field.
LAST TIME OUT:
The Akron track and field team registered a trio of victories as part of 20 overall top five performances at the Spire Throws America Throws/Jump Festival on Jan. 10 in Geneva, Ohio.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Sophomore Isaac Baltic (Medina, Ohio) won the men's pole vault with a clearance of 16-8.75 (5.10m).
• Sophomore Sloane Sypolt (Louisville, Ohio) captured the women's discus with a throw of 143-9 (43.82m).
• Sophomore Amari Noble (Virginia Beach, Va.) bested the field in the men's discus with a mark of 168-4 (51.31m).
• Redshirt senior Lane Graham (Killbuck, Ohio) placed second in the men's shot put with a mark of 53-1.50 (16.19m).
• Junior Jessica Mason (Holland, Ohio) finished second in the women's pole vault eclipsing 12-0 (3.66m).
• Redshirt senior Gabrielle Griffiths (Fort Worth, Texas) was second in the women's elite shot put with a mark of 43-1 (13.13m).
NATIONAL RANKINGS: The University of Akron track and field teams garnered recognition for their efforts during the 2025 outdoor season as the Zips were rated among the Top 30 in the Event Squad rankings for six events released on May 20, 2025, as part of the United States Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index.
Akron was rated ninth nationally in the men's pole vault, 13th in the men's shot put, 17th in the men's hammer and women's hammer, 21st in the men's discus and 22nd in the women's discus.
ZIPS RANK AMONG NATION'S BEST IN 2026 TFRRS RANKINGS: Akron has 11 individual student-athletes ranked in the Top 50 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) for the 2026 indoor campaign as senior Vanessa Horn (Ludwigsfelde, Germany) is rated seventh in the nation in the 400 meters (54.31).
Additionally, redshirt senior Cassidy Allen (Lakewood, N.Y.) is eighth in the women's pole vault (14-1.25/4.30m), junior AJ Jordan (Columbus, Ohio) is 11th in the men's 200 meters (21.12), Brook Boes is 15th in the women's shot put (52-2.75/15.92m) and 19th in the women's weight throw (65-0.75/19.83m), Isaac Baltic is 23rd in the men's pole vault (17-0.75/5.20m), freshman Jackline Nanjala (Kitale, Kenya) is 23rd in the women's 400 meters (55.34), Owen Wendl is 27th in the men's shot put (58-6.50/17.84m), junior Andrew Styles (Freeport, Bahamas) is 33rd in the men's 400 meters (48.11), junior Braylyn Farrington (Alabaster, Ala.) is 44th in the men's 400 meters (48.23), junior Titus Kirui (Eldoret, Kenya) is 47th in the men's 3,000 meters (8:05.95) and sophomore Kaden Rambatt (Sharon, Wis.) is 48th in the men's pole vault (16-4.75/5.00m).
