Jones and Baker Record Double-Doubles in Loss to Wyoming

AKRON, Ohio - Karleighana Jones and Lauren Baker both notched double-doubles, but the Akron volleyball team lost to the Wyoming Cowgirls 3-2 (29-27, 21-25, 25-20, 24-26, 11-15) Friday at James A Rhodes Arena.
The Zips were led by double-doubles from both Jones, who had 10 kills and 10 blocks, and Baker, who had 19 kills and 16 digs. Emanouela Christodoulou also added 17 kills to help the offense. Eliska Vytiskova recorded 41 assists on the night for the Zips. On the defensive end, Vanessa Del Real recorded 25 digs while Isabelle Percoco and Baker combined for nine additional blocks.
Akron falls to 1-3 will the loss to Wyoming.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips came out on top of a close first set, winning 29-27 in a stanza that was tied 13 times and had six lead changes. The Zips opening set win came in a stanza where 18 of their 29 points came via the kill. Akron also supplemented their offense with four aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Akron then lost set two 25-21, evening things at a set each. The Zips dropped the first point and never took the lead before dropping the set.
SET 3 | Akron then got back on the winning track, emerging victorious in set three and taking a two sets to one lead in the match. The Zips scored first and never trailed in the set to earn a 25-20 victory. Akron opened up as much as a nine point lead at 21-12 before closing out the set, collecting 16 kills along the way. Akron's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Wyoming attacks in the stanza.
SET 4 | Akron couldn't finish off a four-set win as the Cowgirls forced a fifth set with a 26-24 victory. The Zips dropped the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before falling in the set.
SET 5 | Akron and Wyoming went back and forth all game, trading wins in the first three sets until the Cowgirls took the last two sets, including winning the fifth set 15-11, and the match. The Zips fell behind on the first point and never took the lead.

The Zips return to the JARÂ to battle the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on Saturday, September 6 for a 12 pm start.
