King's Goal Propels Akron to 1-0 Victory Over Cleveland State

AKRON, Ohio - A goal in the 48th minute (47:12) from junior Emma King (Akron, Ohio) propelled the University of Akron women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Cleveland State on Thursday (Sept. 12) at FirstEnergy Stadium.
How it Happened
After being outshot in the opening stanza by Cleveland State, Akron broke the scoreless tie when King recorded her first goal of the season at the 47:12 mark, assisted by sophomores Olivia Heskett (Lewis Center, Ohio) and Anna Simmons (Manassas, Va.).
The Zips received strong defensive efforts throughout the match to preserve the squad's fourth consecutive shutout. Redshirt junior GK Penelope Cuirinier (Mionnay, France) and sophomore GK Sara Bower (Cincinnati, Ohio) combined to record 10 saves, including seven in the decisive second half by Bower.
