Akron Earns 1-0 Shutout Victory Past Saint Francis

AKRON, Ohio - A goal in the 68th minute (67:31) from freshman Allie McMillen (Shreve, Ohio) lifted the University of Akron women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Saint Francis on Senior Day on Sunday (Sept. 15) at FirstEnergy Stadium.
How it Happened
The two sides battled through a scoreless opening stanza with the Red Storm outshooting the Zips, 7-3.
The defensive battle continued into the second half before a flurry of shots in front of the net from freshman Elisabeth Rupp (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and junior Emma King (Akron, Ohio) resulted in the first career goal from McMillen. King garnered the assist on the tally.
Redshirt senior GK Penelope Cuirinier (Mionnay, France) earned the shutout making seven saves, while a team save preserved the clean sheet for Akron.
Akron Seniors Honored
Akron honored eight seniors in Lacey Bernick (North Huntingdon, Pa.), Caitlin Bruni (Canal Fulton, Ohio), Maxima Carlitz (Stolberg, Germany), Quinn Casey (Powell, Ohio), Ella Hadley (Concord, Ohio), Clara Krohn (Akron, Ohio) and Morgan Shansky (Oakdale, Pa.) along with Cuirinier in pregame ceremonies.
Game Notes
- Cuirinier collected seven saves for the Zips out of 13 total Red Flash shots.
- Ten Zips recorded shots in the affair, led by a team-high two from McMillen.
