Nicholasville, Ky. – The Akron golf team opened the 2024-25 season at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational hosted by Kentucky at at the Champion Trace at Keene Trace Golf Club (Par 72, 6,261 yards).
The Zips' scoring was led by junior Maisarah Hezri (Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysia) who finished 40th overall with a 231(+15). Hezri lead Akron through all three rounds, finishing with a 79 (+7) final round score mixed with an opening round 77 (+5) and a team-low 75 (+3) second round effort.
Akron freshman Sohniya Chandra Mohan (Selangor, Malaysia) followed in scoring with a 232 (+16) performance in her collegiate debut. She used rounds of 78 (+6), 77 (+5) and 77 (+5) to finish 42nd overall.
Juniors Emily Liptak (Akron, Ohio), Avery Wright (Jackson, Ohio) and Hridhika Vora (Mumbai, Maharashtra) rounded out the scoring. Liptak posted an 82-83-82 – 247 (+31) total, while Vora registered an 87-85-81 - 253 (+37) and Wright carded a 84-84-89 – 259 (+43). Sophomore Katrin Horn Danielsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) registered an 88-86-91 – 265 (+49) as an individual.
As a team, Akron finished the 54-hole tournament with a 960 (+96), improving by one stroke each round (321-320-319).
Akron will be back in action Nittany Lion Invitational hosted by Penn State on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14-15.
