Akron Secures 1-0 Win Over Oakland

AKRON, Ohio - A goal in the 48th minute (47:26) from senior Ella Hadley (Concord, Ohio) propelled the University of Akron women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory past Oakland in the squad's home opener on Thursday (Aug. 22) at FirstEnergy Stadium.
The triumph represented the 50th career win in the coaching career for Akron head coach Jen Simonetti.
How it Happened
The two sides battled through a scoreless opening half with the Zips registering a 5-1 advantage in first-half shots.
Akron broke the stalemate when Hadley scored her second goal of the season at the 47:26 mark off an assist from sophomore Rachel Wenzel (Akron, Ohio).
Redshirt junior GK Penelope Cuirinier (Mionnay, France) and sophomore Sara Bower (Cincinnati, Ohio) combined to garner the clean sheet for the Zips on the strength of a pair of saves.
Game Notes
- Bower totaled one save for the Zips out of three total Golden Grizzlies shots.
- Akron registered seven shots on goal and posted a 15-4 overall edge in shots.
