Akron Rallies To Knock Off Western Michigan, 8-3

AKRON, Ohio -The Akron Zips used a five-run eighth inning along with solid pitching to take down Western Michigan 8-3 on Saturday to tie the series.
In the batter's box, the Zips were led by Charlie Schebler, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and three RBI. Sam Seeker furnished a 1-for-3 day that featured a 2-RBI double and a walk. Max Bowman also helped out for Akron, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI. Evan Bottone went 2-for-4 with a double against Western Michigan as well.
Jared Schaeffer (2-6) started on the mound and picked up the win for Akron (10-32, 5-15). The righty went eight innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on seven hits, allowing no walks and striking out five. Sean Perkins also made an impact on the mound for the Zips, throwing one shutout inning while allowing no hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Bottone came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.
The Zips kept the Broncos off the board before taking the lead in the seventh. Akron pushed two runs across on a two-run double off the bat of Schebler that scored Jack Poist and Bowman, which brought the Zips lead to 3-2.
Akron kept Western Michigan scoreless before expanding their lead to 8-2 the following inning. The Zips bats heated up in the inning, scoring five runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Seeker. Western Michigan put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Akron still coasted to the 8-3 win.
