LEXINGTON, Ky. – Headlined by a school-record time in the women's 400 meters from junior Joy Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria), the University of Akron track and field team culminated its efforts with three victories as part of nine overall top-five performances on the final day of the Jim Green Invitational hosted by Kentucky on Saturday (April 20).
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Junior Joy Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria) broke her own school-record time in the women's 400 meters crossing the line in a career-best time of 53.53 to place third.
• Redshirt senior Charles Sanders (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded a time of 46.97 to win the men's 400 meters.
• The men's 4x100 relay team bested the field in 39.97, a time that is two one-hundredths of second off the school record.
• The women's 4x100 relay squad finished second in a season-best time of 45.79, while the women's 4x400 relay also placed second in a season-low time of 3:39.61.
• The men's 4x400 relay team crossed the line in a season-best time 3:10.12 to place first.
