Akron, Ohio – The Zips will look to rebound this week as they start with a road trip to face the West Virginia Mountaineers on Tuesday, March 26.

SCOUTING REPORT
The Mountaineers come into Tuesday's contest with a 14-10 overall record, a 4-2 record in the Big 12, and a 5-3 record at home. West Virginia is on a two-game winning streak after taking the last two games against Oklahoma at L. Dale Mitchell Park. Coming into the season, the Mountaineers were selected to finished tied in sixth place in the Big 12.
So far this season, the Mountaineers have four players hitting above .300 that have seen action in at least 10 games. Reed Chumley has a team high batting average of .339 that features 21 hits, five double, one triple and share of the team lead in home runs with five. He also has 15 RBI. Sam White is the team leader in hits with 27 while four others have 20 or more hits this season. Benjamin Lumsden leads the way in doubles with six while Chumley has the only triple on the season. Grant Hussey joins Chumley for the lead in home runs while two Mountaineers have four home runs. Lumsden and White are tied for the lead in RBI with 16.
Gavin Van Kempen is leading the way in wins with four in seven appearances and two starts. Adrian Majoris the team's leader in strikeouts (40) and innings pitched (34.0).

The Zips will look to respond after getting swept by Northern Illinois this past weekend. Akron is led by Nicky Sackett in batting average with a .313 this season and the lone Zip to hit above .300. Charlie Schedler and Max Bowman are second and third in batting average with .296 and .289. Bowman leads the squad with 22 hits and is the only Zips with 20 or more hits. Two Zips have 18 hits which is good for second on the team while three Zips are tied for the lead with four doubles. Two Zips have recorded 10 or more RBI with Bowman leading the team with 13 and Evan Bottone with 11.
Sean Perkins leads the team in ERA with 3.31 through eight appearances and 16.1 innings. Dawson Tourney is the leader in innings pitched with 27.0 and strikeouts. Spencer Atkins is second in innings pitched 26.1 and strikeouts with 23.
LAST TIME AGAINST WEST VIRGINIA (MAR. 17, 2015)
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Eleven different players recorded at least one hit as the West Virginia University baseball team beat Akron, 14-9, on Tuesday evening at CONSOL Energy Ballpark.
The Mountaineers (9-8, 1-2 Big 12) tied a season high with 20 hits and committed three errors, and the Zips (8-8) had nine hits and three errors.
Sophomore right fielder Shaun Wood and sophomore first baseman Jackson Cramer each went 3-for-3 with Wood driving in three runs. Each player scored two runs. Senior shortstop Taylor Munden, sophomore catcher Ray Guerrini and freshman left fielder Kyle Davis each had one home run, with Guerrini driving in a game-high five runs.
Munden led off with a home run for the second time this season as part of a four-run first inning. Munden's homer was his team-leading sixth of the season. Senior left fielder Brad Johnson scored on an error by the right fielder, while Wood and Guerrini each had RBI singles to make it 4-0.
Wood drove in his second run of the game in third inning with a bases loaded single to plate Johnson. Guerrini followed in the next at bat with a grand slam, his first career home run, bringing the score to 9-0.
West Virginia loaded the bases with no outs for the second-straight inning in the bottom of the fourth, coming away with only one run to extend the lead to 10-0. Wood's third single of evening produced his third RBI, scoring freshman Caleb Potter.
Davis added two runs to WVU's lead in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run home run to left field, his second of the season.
Akron scored four runs to cut the deficit to 12-4 in the top of the seventh, highlighted by a two-run triple to right center field off the bat of Dan Lawrence.
The Mountaineers loaded the bases again in the bottom of the seventh and Potter picked up his first career RBI with a sacrifice fly to center field, making the score 13-4.
Following one run by Akron in the top of the eighth, junior center fielder KC Huth hit an RBI single through the left side, marking the score at 14-5. Akron added four runs in the top of the ninth, highlighted by a Havrilak three-run home run.
Freshman right-hander BJ Myers (1-1) picked up his first career win in four shutout innings. He allowed two hits in the start, striking out six batters and walking two. Freshman righty Adam Keller pitched two shutout innings of relief, allowing one hit with four strikeouts.
The loss was issued to Zach Beaver (0-1), who gave up nine runs, eight earned, on nine hits with one strikeout and one walk in three innings. Joey Havrilak, Matt Rembielak and Billy Salem had two hits apiece for the Zips.

PERKS OF THE JOB
Sean Perkins was named the MAC Pitcher of the week on March 4 after picking up a win over No. 10/12 Duke.
Coming in down 2-1 against Duke in the second game of the series, Perkins pitched five innings of near-spotless baseball as the Zips defeated the No. 10/12 Blue Devils 4-3 on March 2. Throwing the final five innings, Perkins held his own with just two hits allowed along with one run and two strikeouts to earn the win. He sent Duke three-up-three down in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings and ended the ninth with a strikeout. Perkins also held Duke's hitters to a combined .118 batting average over the five innings of work.
ONE TO REMEMBER
Head coach Bryan Faulds collected his first win leading the Akron Zips in the second game of a doubleheader against Illinois on February 14. Down 4-2 heading to the bottom of the seventh, Akron battled to force extra-innings when Max Bowman sent a walk-off home run in the 11th inning to give the Zips a 5-4 victory.
